Venice High is part of the Community Schools Initiative

A Community School . . .

  • Uses a whole child approach
  • Has an integrated focus on academics, health and social services, youth and community development, and community engagement
  • Works closely with educators, students, and families to understand and address the unique needs, assets, and aspirations of the school community
  • Is an equity-enhancing strategy that aligns with and can coordinate and extend current CA, LAUSD, and school  initiatives. Rather than one initiative among many, it is holistic framework that integrates and aligns historic investments in youth and their families.

Four Pillars of a Community School

  • Integrated Student Supports
  • Expanded and Enriched Learning Time and Opportunities
  • Active Family and Community Engagement
  • Collaborative Leadership Practices
