The Venice High School Auditorium was constructed in 1937 and is a contributing feature to the Venice High School Historic District eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places and the California Register of Historical Resources. The campus is significant for its association with the School District’s efforts to rebuild following the Long Beach earthquake in 1933 and is an excellent example of the PWA Moderne architectural style prevalent throughout the School District at the time. The Auditorium features two frescoes by Helen Lundeberg completed in 1941. In 2023, LAUSD completed a renovation project including repairs to ornamental plaster features in the interior and upgrades for seismic stability. This project was recently awarded a California Preservation Foundation Design Award.
