SCHOOL OF ADVANCED STUDIES (SAS) & GATE
Schools for Advanced Studies (SAS)
Challenge Yourself. Explore Your Interests. Find Your Path at Venice.
Venice High School’s Schools for Advanced Studies (SAS) program provides gifted and high-achieving students with a challenging, engaging academic experience while giving them access to everything a comprehensive high school has to offer.
SAS students can build an academic program that challenges them through Honors and Advanced Placement (AP) courses, while also exploring their interests through Venice High School’s academies, electives, athletics, arts, clubs, and other extracurricular opportunities.
Our goal is to provide students with both academic rigor and choice. Students can challenge themselves in advanced courses, explore potential college and career interests, and become part of a diverse and active high school community.
Venice High School has a large community of gifted and high-achieving students. More than 40% of our student population is GATE identified, creating opportunities for gifted students to learn alongside other advanced learners throughout their high school experience. We strongly encourage GATE-identified students to enroll in Honors and AP courses, where students can be clustered with other GATE students and experience greater depth, complexity, acceleration, and academic challenge.
Local students may select Honors and AP courses when they are ready for the challenge. Our counselors work with students and families to review transcripts, discuss academic goals, and help students develop an appropriate course of study. Whether a student wants to take a few advanced courses or pursue a highly rigorous Honors and AP pathway, Venice gives students the opportunity to build a program that fits their goals.
One of the strengths of SAS at Venice is that students don't have to choose between academic rigor and the full high school experience. Students can combine advanced academics with one of our academy or elective pathways and participate in the many opportunities available across the Venice campus.
Challenge yourself academically. Discover new interests. Get involved. Prepare for what comes next.
Enrollment Information: Priority for Venice High School SAS is given to students who live within the Venice attendance area. When space is available, students who live outside the attendance area may be able to apply for a permit to attend Venice and participate in SAS. There is no separate SAS application for students who live within the Venice High School district area.
Venice High School’s SAS program was featured by LAUSD as an example of Schools for Advanced Studies.
