In addition, WLGS and the Venice chapter of MeCHa were invited to participate in the pop-up Dia De Los Muertos display and cultural programming at the Santa Monica History Museum from October 30th - Nov 18th. A beautiful display was created alongside displays from neighboring high schools. Please view pictures of the events here

Cultural Zoom Exchange with Oguni High School of Japan.

venice
Volunteer students in Japanese classes zoomed with sophomores of Oguni High School from 6-7pm on November 2, 2022. Students prepared slides about their favorite SDG or the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (Global Goals) to spread awareness of the various issues affecting our future world. Oguni students presented slides on famous Ukiyoe artists and their famous woodblock prints. Students enjoyed the cross cultural exchange taking turns presenting in Japanese and English, filling in the language gaps with smiles and laughs and general teenage fun. We hope to be able to zoom with them again soon.

WLGS Update for FOG 22.10.11
Ms. Divincenzo sponsored a school-wide Mock Election today. Can't wait to see and hear all about it. Empowering students to make a difference. :) Students loved the "I voted" stickers.

Kudos to Mr. Sutherland for the first Marching Band/Color Guard competition of the season. It was all the way in Bellflower. We would love to see videos. Go Gondos! Remember, we are the only competitive marching band on the Westside. :)

The students started off their engagement with this year’s theme with a call to action in the #Act4SDGs “Flip the Script” campaign. The World Language teachers encouraged their students to change their mindset about making a difference in the world. Here is a link to our video summary of our event.

The Arabic and Japanese classes are participating in the Climate Action Project and will be working on solutions to Glocal (Global x Local) issues about access to our theme “Clean Water and Sanitation” caused by climate change. Look forward to their presentations after Thanksgiving Break and at Earth Day 2023.

The 10th Grade field trip has been booked to the Ballona Wetlands on 2 separate days for a shared experience on effects of water quality for native flora and fauna and our drinking water. Students will also learn how to preserve our natural resources according to Traditional / Indigenous Knowledge. The dates are March 17th and March 24th of 2023. We are in need of around 8-10 parent chaperones. Chaperones must be processed through the Parent Center in-person. LAUSD is asking for 45 days notice for booking field trips now and We cannot even book a field trip until we have chaperone names listed in the application. Even if you are not sure you can attend yet, we would appreciate parents to sign up to volunteer so we can get the field trip approval process going. Venice would like to have a pool of parents, a parent corp if you will, that are willing to chaperone and volunteer regardless of SLC affiliation. Thank you in advance for your support. Mr. Lee will have more information on the process.
