 2021 Write for Rights Campaign

writeBack in 2015, students from WLGS attended an Amnesty International Conference and participated in a forum on student activism. Beginning that year and since then, WLGS has hosted an annual letter writing campaign know as Write For Rights (W4R).

This year we hosted our 7th annual Annual Write for Rights Campaign on December 1st, calling attentions to human rights abuses across the globe. People in more than 170 countries meet to write letters advocating for jailed or harassed human rights activists in countries as diverse as Mexico, South Africa, Ukraine, Egypt, and Thailand.

Our goal this year was to send 100 letters to Amnesty International in Washington, D.C., but as of last count, we exceeded 300 letters. Some were written in the target languages that we learn in our classes, and some where written in English, but all contained true expressions of concern.

It is an exciting opportunity for students to learn about human rights, and to use their voices to speak up for others.
