CHATELAINES & ESQUIRES

In their Junior year, students who show commitment to the community join Chatelaines & Esquires. In this group, each member volunteers in one of our school offices, as well as with Campus Beautification Days, and with their supportive presence at Back to School Night, Parent Conferences, and many other school events.

With its vast history at Venice High School, this student group is a great opportunity for students to learn how to work collaboratively, and how to execute projects in leadership.

Historically, a Chatelaine is a woman who is in charge of a large household or estate, therefore, a woman of notable organization and skills. An Esquire is an officer in the service of a king or a nobleman. Originally, these were two separate clubs who worked on different service projects. However, in 1991, when Ms. Barbara Komatsu and Ms. Sheri Nagata took over the organizations, they realized that bringing these two groups together would create a greater synergy. Therefore, in 1993, The Chatelaines and The Esquires merged to celebrate partnership and equity of genders.
