What is Tri-M?
 
Incorporated in 1952 as the “Modern Music Masters” (hence the current “Tri-M” name). In 1983 it became an approved program of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) and in 1986 Tri-M was recognized by the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) as an approved program.
 
Purpose
 
It is the international music honor society for junior high and high school students that is designed to recognize students for their academic and musical achievements, reward them for their accomplishments and service activities, and to inspire other students to excel at music, leadership, and service. Members participate in different service projects throughout the year and submit their projects for recognition by the national organization.
 
What are the membership requirements?
 
Requirements for students to be considered for and maintain membership:
 
~ Must be enrolled in a music ensemble and/or class for at least one semester of the current school year
~ Must exhibit leadership, service, and character in their activities while at Venice High School.
~ Must maintain a letter grade of B or better in all music classes, and a C average in all other classes.
~ Must attend mandatory monthly lunch meetings
~ Must fulfill 10 hours of service at designated/approved music events and projects.
