steemThe STEMM Magnet is a Linked Learning Pathway known for its modern, real-world, project-based, technologically and 21st-Century relevant curriculum taught by caring and collaborative teachers with high rigor and expectations. Once admitted to the STEMM Magnet, students choose from one of two career pathways, biomedical sciences and engineering.

OUR GOAL...
The goal of the STEMM Magnet is to provide our students with a strong foundation in academics (A-G requirements) within the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, & Medicine (STEMM), to close the existing achievement gap, and to facilitate the transition of our students to post-secondary opportunities in universities, technical schools, and the 21st century work-place.

STEMM PATHWAYS

Students enrolled in the Science Technology Engineering Mathematics and Medicine (STEMM) Magnet will have a choice of two pathways -- Engineering and Biomedical Science. The engineering and biomedical sciences courses will be experiential; we want you to get involved in the projects. In fact, there are no textbooks, just challenges... and lots of computer design and analysis.

Engineering
  1. Exploring Computer Science: Students will learn the fundamentals of computer science such as algorithm development, problem solving, and programming to help students use digital tools or languages to solve real-world problems
  2. Introduction to Engineering Design: Students use 3D solid modeling design software to design solutions to solve real-world problems.
  3. Advanced Placement (AP) Computer Science Principles: Students will learn college-level data simulation and programming skills & languages, building upon the foundations of block coding and advancing to text- and object-based programming languages.
  4. Engineering Design and Development: Students work in teams to identify a real-life problem that they would like to fix, then design and develop an original solution by applying an engineering design process.
Biomedical Science
  1. Principles of the Biomedical Sciences: Students investigate the human body systems and various health conditions and medical treatments.
  2. Human Body Systems: Students examine the interactions of body systems, design experiments, investigate the structures and functions of the human body.
  3. Medical Interventions: Students investigate a variety of interventions involved in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases as they follow the lives of a fictitious family.
  4. Biomedical Innovation: In this capstone class, students apply their knowledge and skills to solve problems and design innovative solutions for health challenges of the 21st century.
