Physical Education Exemption
Permanent PE Exemption Request – Parent Action Required
California Education Code §51222) requires that students in grade 7-12 take 4 years of physical education. Los Angeles Unified School District has introduced a new process for permanent Physical Education (PE) exemption for eligible students.
If your student qualifies for a Physical Education Exemption, a Parent/Legal Guardian/Educational Rights Holder must request exemption. A form has been sent with your student and is also available to download for you to access.
What Parents Need to Do
- Review the PE exemption request form carefully
- Complete all required parent/guardian sections
- Sign and date the form
- Return the completed form to the Counseling Office as soon as possible
Important Information
Please note that not all students are eligible. In order to meet eligibility requirements, students must meet age requirement of 16 years and have completed two years of required PE for graduation (typically in grades 9th and 10th).
Submitting the form does not automatically guarantee approval. All requests will be reviewed according to LAUSD guidelines.
