Public Libraries
Covid-19 Update:
The Los Angeles Public Library (LAPL) has eBooks available for patrons. This includes both audiobooks and digital books you can read. Log in with your library card here: https://www.lapl.org/
If you don't already have a library card, you can register for an eCard here: https://www.lapl.org/about-lapl/borrower-services#apply
You will need an email address to register. Please note that students under 18 will also need to enter their parents information, including email address.
Due to the current situation, many eBooks are already checked out and have long waiting lists. LAPL and LAUSD advise putting yourself on the waiting list. LAPL uses this information to decide which books to buy more copies of.

Public Libraries provide e-Books
With a valid library card and PIN, you can download e-Books from the Los Angeles Public Library or from the County Library (LA) using the OverDrive app or Web site. OverDrive allows you to read e-Books and magazines on your e-Reader (Kindle or Nook) or with the OverDrive app.
Each library has information on how to borrow e-Books and audiobooks, or you can use OverDrive's getting started page. You may register more than one library in the OverDrive app and switch between them within the app. Once you borrow a book it is automatically returned when due so you will have no late fees.
